This Old House/Odyssey Naming Poll

The band formerly known as Odyssey, also formerly known as This Old House, has asked our readers to help them settle on yet another new name. In an effort to help one of our favorite bands settle an issue they seem to be having, we have provided you ,dear reader ,with a selection of potential names for the Denton band (see poll in the right sidebar). Whatever name you vote for the most by the end of the week will be what we refer to them from here on out. Get to votin'.

One Night Only: Tripping Daisy To Play a Reunion Show at Sons of Hermann Hall With the Toadies in Support

News broke today that the legendary Dallas pysch-pop band Tripping Daisy is set to return for a one-off reunion show 11 years after its demise. The Tim-Delaughter-fronted band met it' demise when lead guitarist Wes Berggren passed away from a drug overdose. After years of fronting The Polyphonic Spree, Delaughter felt it was time to return to the band that first brought him acclaim, and for a replacement no guitar he looked no further than ex-Spree member, and current indie star Annie Clark (whom you all know as St. Vincent). The band plans to play a one-off show on Saturday, April 17th at Sons of Hermman Hall with fellow 90s DFW iconsthe Toadies providing support. We can't say how exciting this is for those of us who grew up listening to Tripping Daisy, and how happy we are for all the 40-somethings who are going to get to relive their youth, if just for one night.

Spune Merges With Pitchfork Media; New Local Agency To Be Called 'Spork'

News came out last night that venerable trendsetting site Pitchfork media was expanding their booking base from just handling their own festival to having satellite companies in major markets throughout the US and Canada. By doing so they allow themselves to stand as not only the tastemakers in what you buy, but in what you see. Local booking/management company Spune reached a deal to be Pitchfork's DFW arm and have renamed themselves Spork as a sign of synergy. This, of course, is either good or bad news for local music, depending on your feelings on both companies.

Radiohead to Headline NX35 2011

According to a source close to the festival, internationally acclaimed band Radiohead has agreed to play the Denton festival, much like The Flaming Lips did just last month, in an effort to raise awareness for green initiatives at a local level. The show is intended to be free and open to the public, and will feature numerous teaching stations instead of the usual sponsor padded merch tents. Radiohead has long been known for its green outlook on the world, having planned their tours in a way that would have a limited impact on the environment and giving both time and money to Earth-conscious charities. Partnered with the ongoing initiative in the City of Denton to better the town culturally and environmentally, this event shows the commitment the city has for both the festival's future and its future as a leader in social change.

This of course a stunning get for a festival that just finished up its second year, and further shows the initiative taken by festival head Chris Flemmons and his loyal band of volunteers.

RJD2 Sends a Cease and Desist Letter to RTB2; George Lucas Remains Blissfully Unaware of Both

In a story that resembles the Teenage Cool Kids/Cool Kids brouhaha of last summer, electronic artist RJD2 has sent local rock band RTB2 a cease and desist letter citing that the band's name infringes on his branding. Despite the band's name stemming from a take on singer/guitarist Ryan Thomas Becker's own name, legal experts agree that the Mad-Men-theme-writing RJD2 has a clear-cut case, because his management can, in fact, afford a lawyer to hassle the RTB2 boys. George Lucas was unavailable for comment due to being locked in his subterranean lair underneath Skywalker Ranch, furiously trying to change the scene in cinematic flop Howard The Duck that would show Lea Thompson shooting second.

Fishboy, Giggle Party Feud Heading Into Dig! Territory

Eric of Fishboy was heard making rude comments to bassist Jason Reichl of Giggle Party outside The Boiler room during their joint bill on the last night of NX35. On stage, Jason Reichl proclaimed to the crowd that Fishboy and he were once Gchat friends but are no longer speaking on the popular instant messaging platform. After the show Katrina Michie's keyboard stand went missing and Katrina was overheard telling Ryan from Smile Smile that she knew that Fishboy had stolen it when the band packed up and left the venue. The above comic seems to support this rumor.

The ever-changing environment of online music coverage makes it all but impossible for any one entity to survive on its own. So with this in mind, we've decided that the best plan was for each of our entities to combine into something more than we could be on our own. By becoming something bigger than the sum of our parts, we hope to provide the area with the best in local and national coverage while still keeping the voices that we worked so hard cultivate with our other projects.
